In just a few easy steps with this comprehensive, simple, and easy-to-use software bundle proven to protect while preserving your safety, security and privacy. Best of all you won't see: “Your computer is unprotected! Click here to purchase a license” message, meant to terrorize you into spending your hard earned money on never ending upgrades. Instructions included in five languages. Detection:
ClamWin Antivirus is antivirus software
for Windows. It provides a graphical user interface to the Clam AntiVirus engine.
ClamWin uses the GNU General Public License. ClamWin Antivirus comes with an
installer and open source code at no cost. It features: scanning scheduler,
automatic virus database updates, a standalone virus scanner, integration to
MS Windows Explorer, and add-in to MS Outlook. It allows to select and scan
a folder or file, configure settings and update virus databases. It also includes
a Windows Taskbar tray icon. ClamWin also features a context menu handler for
Windows Explorer which installs Scan into the right-click explorer menu for
files and folders.
Spybot - Search & Destroy
can detect and remove spyware of different kinds from your computer. Spybot
also can clean program and Web-usage tracks from your system, which is especially
useful if you share your computer. Modules chosen for removal can be sent directly
to the included file shredder, ensuring complete elimination from your system.
For advanced users, it allows you to fix Registry inconsistencies related to
adware and to malicious program installations. Spyware is a relatively new kind
of threat that common anti-virus applications do not yet cover. If you see new
toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you didn't intentionally install, if
your browser crashes, or if you browser start page has changed without your
knowing, you most probably have spyware. But even if you don't see anything,
you may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging that is silently
tracking your surfing behavior.
WinPatrol uses a heuristic approach
to detecting attacks and violations of your computing environment. Traditional
security programs scan your hard drive searching for previously identified threats.
WinPatrol takes snapshot of your critical system resources and alerts you to
any changes that may occur without your knowledge. You'll be removing dangerous
new programs while others download new reference files. WinPatrol isn't the
only software we recommend for complete safety but with Scotty on Patrol you'll
find yourself informed on what's going on inside your computer. WinPatrol puts
you back in control of your computer so you'll know what programs are and should
be running at all times.
Malware Blocker
allows you to modify the Windows HOST file. This file is loaded into memory
(cache) at startup, then Windows checks the Hosts file before it queries any
DNS servers, which enables it to override addresses in the DNS. This prevents
access to the listed sites by redirecting any connection attempts back to the
local machine. Another feature of the HOSTS file is its ability to block other
applications from connecting to the Internet, providing the entry exists. You
can use Malware Blocker to block ads, banners, 3rd party Cookies, 3rd party
page counters, web bugs, and even most hijackers. This is accomplished by blocking
the Server that supplies these little gems. Example - the following entry 0.0.0.0
ad.doubleclick.net blocks all files supplied by that DoubleClick Server to the
web page you are viewing. This also prevents the server from tracking your movements.
Currently the HOSTS file that comes with Malware Blocker blocks over 7,000 unwanted
web sites.
WinSockXP Fix
offers a last resort if your Internet connectivity has been corrupted due to
invalid or removed registry entries. It can often cure the problem of lost connections
after the removal of Adware components or improper uninstall of firewall applications
or other tools that modify the XP network and Winsock settings. If you encounter
connection problems after removing network related software, Adware or after
registry clean-up; and all other ways fail, then give WinSock XP Fix a try.
It can create a registry backup of your current settings, so it is fairly safe
to use.
Protection:
Firefox continues to
build increasing levels of performance and stability into the browser. Hundreds
of volunteer developers and testers contributed numerous bug fixes, new features
and security improvements during this development cycle, again demonstrating
the strength of the open source community’s commitment to powerful, stable
and secure applications. Firefox is an award winning preview of next generation
browsing technology from mozilla.org that empowers you to accomplish your online
activities faster, more safely and efficiently than any other browser, period.
Built with Tab browsing, popup blocking and a number of other seamless innovations,
Firefox stands out ahead. Mozilla Firefox is a completely modular browser consisting
of a basic, streamlined framework upon which users can add ' extensions ', which
(just as the name implies) are essentially plugins for the browser. The idea
of less is more has been taken to the next level with this browser. With the
default browser, you have just enough browser to do pretty much anything you
can on the Internet, while more advanced, custom functionality is reserved to
the extensions. For instance, you can load extra functionality such as more
precise ad blocking, mouse gestures, website registration bypassing, dictionary,
user agent switching, complete page and listbox/textbox searching, text zooming,
UI tweaks, and the list goes on.
Thunderbird provides
the most effective tools for detecting junk mail. Tools that analyze your e-mail
and identify those that are most likely to be junk. You can automatically have
your junk mail deleted or you can put it in a folder you specify, just in case
you like reading junk mail. Thunderbird provides enterprise and government grade
security features such as S/MIME, digital signing, message encryption, support
for certificates and security devices. One of the best features of Thunderbird
is the excellent built-in spam filter. The Junk Mail controls make handling
spam very simple. There is an adaptive filter that you can "train"
over time to recognize spam messages. To classify a received message as spam,
users can click the "Junk" icon on the program's toolbar. The filter
will "remember" this clarification next time and automatically deal
with the spam message according to the user's chosen settings. It offers support
for multiple accounts, an excellent built in spell-checker, a number of ways
to sort your mail and many more features. Another plus is that Thunderbird is
a cross-platform application that is available for Windows, Linux and Macintosh
operating systems. Thunderbird has proven to be quite stable on both my Windows
XP and my Windows 98 systems.
CCleaner is a freeware system optimization
and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows
to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces
of your online activities such as your Internet history. A more advanced feature
which analyses your computers registry (where windows system settings are stored)
and fixes any problems and inconsistencies that exist. It also checks for old
shortcuts in your start menu and on your desktop. But the best part is that
it's fast (normally taking less that a second to run) and contains No Spyware
or Adware!) Cleans: Explorer: Temporary files, URL history, cookies, Auto complete
form history, index.dat. Firefox: Temporary files, URL history, cookies, download
history. Windows: Recycle Bin, Recent Documents, Temporary files and Log files.
Registry: Advanced features to remove unused and old entries, including File
Extensions, ActiveX Controls, ClassIDs, ProgIDs, Uninstallers, Shared DLLs,
Fonts, Help Files, Application Paths, Icons, Invalid Shortcuts and more... also
comes with a comprehensive backup feature. Third-party: Removes temp files and
recent file lists (MRUs) from many apps including Opera, Media Player, eMule,
Kazaa, Google Toolbar, Netscape, MS Office, Nero, Adobe Acrobat, WinRAR, WinAce,
WinZip and many more...

Eraser is an advanced security
tool (for Windows), which allows you to completely remove sensitive data from
your hard drive by overwriting it several times with carefully selected patterns.
Works with Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP and DOS. Most people have some data
that they would rather not share with others - passwords, personal information,
classified documents from work, financial records, self-written poems, the list
can be continued forever. Perhaps you have saved some of this information on
your computer where it is conveniently at your reach, but when the time comes
to remove the data from your hard disk, things get a bit more complicated and
maintaining your privacy is not as simple as it may have seemed at first. Eraser
was designed, and because of this intuitive design and a simple user interface,
you can safely and easily erase private data from your hard drive.
